It’s really trending right now to say, “You can’t be a witch and be…”

Yes, people can. Does it make sense? Not really. But until we stop lumping all witches / practitioners together as people who want to heal the world and those in it, we can’t fully protect ourselves.
People will say, witches were healers. Witches were midwives. Witches fought for those who were marginalized. Yes, some did. But others didn’t.
To fully protect yourself, you need to know how to do workings to counteract those types of witches / practitioners. To fully protect people or groups of people who need your help, you need to know how to halt the workings against them. And you can’t do that if you’re out here believing their workings have no power because their moral compass doesn’t align with yours.
A protected witch or practitioner is one who sees with eyes fully opened, one who doesn’t think people who aren’t like them are weak and their workings are defective.
From what I’m seeing, this seems to be centrally located to the US. My friends practicing overseas firmly believe witches work all which of ways, standing on differing beliefs.
Let’s not forget that a Witch in the Appalachian Mountain region was someone who worked AGAINST the betterment of the community. Although some of us have reclaimed that title as a tribute to those who were murdered in the Witch Hunts, there was some basis in that theory.
